Windy conditions
As the Angels open a four-game series today against the Yankees in the new Yankee Stadium, talk is about all the home runs that have been hit in the Bronx since the new ballpark opened. The reasons for balls flying into the seats in left and right fields are somewhat vague. Poor pitching, a jet-stream wind and shorter fences have all been cited as excuses.
If it is a "mystery wind," as some have said, this isn't so unusual. At Dodger Stadium, there has always been a light wind that has blown out to left field, especially during the late afternoon and early evening.
Members of the media who played in the annual Hollywood Stars game were told to play deeper in left because of this "phantom" breeze.
