Monday musings

If the year-long spat between DirecTV and the Pac-12 Network is a barometer, then one doesn't hold out hope for CBS and Time Warner Cable to end their current disagreement, which has the cable network refusing to broadcast major sports events on the affiliate KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.
Earlier this month, golf fans with the Time Warner service, couldn't watch the PGA Championship and if the blackout carries into September, football fans won't be able to watch NFL or college games.

add blackout: It is hard to believe that the feud between DirecTV and the Pac-12 Network is now going into its second year. UCLA's home opener this Saturday night against Nevada at the Rose Bowl will be televised by the Pac-12, so Bruins fans with DirecTV are starting the season out of luck.

add openers: USC begins its season on Thursday in Honolulu against Hawaii. The game will be televised on CBS' cable network, CBSSN. The Trojans have decided to open with two quarterbacks, Cody Kessler and Max Wittek, who both ended summer camp in a tie for the position.
Coach Lane Kiffin has said that both may play against the Rainbow Warriors, but did not say who will start or if he will alternate the two. Wittek and Kessler are both third-year sophomores. Wittek replaced Matt Barkley last season against Notre Dame after Barkley was sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained against UCLA.

add UCLA: Nevada's offense will be a familiar one to Bruins' fans. The Wolfpack run the Pistol, which
UCLA featured a few seasons ago. Nevada's version, though, is expected to feature more passing than is usually seen in the run-first offense.
